Hawaiian Son: From Sea to Shining Sea

This oil painting of Barack Obama was inspired by the cover of Time Magazine's Commemorative Issue on "Change has come to America" after his election on November 4, 2008. It was as if the portrait painted itself and had a life of its own. The turquoise background reminded me of the ocean of his Hawaiian birth place and prompted the title "From Sea to Shining Sea" which I felt signified how far reaching his influence for good could be in the world.
